Kanha Shantivanam 28th December 2023

In the evening, Dr Tony Nader came to meet Daaji. They garlanded each other as was the tradition of the Transcendental Meditation organisation.

While saying goodbye as they were leaving, Daaji in his signature humble and elegant way, with that delicate sweet smile overflowing with grace, which literally makes you give your heart to him in an instant, said, “How would you like me to address you?” To which Dr Tony Nader said, “Please call me Rajaraam which was the name Maharishi Mahesh Yogi had given me.”  Then they left and Daaji got ready for the rest of the evening in his new royal robes!

Daaji woke up at 5 am and went to his office downstairs to work. Santosh Khanjee joined him for a walk at 7 am. After breakfast, Daaji had a call with Elizabeth Denley to discuss his upcoming book. After the call ended, he went up to his room and worked at his computer. Around 1 pm, Prema Aunty and Sahaj came up to Daaji’s room after having had their lunch. Prema Aunty expressed her delight at Daaji’s spiritual way of delivering his messages.

In the evening, Dr Tony Nader came to meet Daaji. They garlanded each other as was the tradition of the Transcendental Meditation organisation. Daaji welcomed him saying let us know if there is anything you need, during your stay here. Daaji told them that had he known in advance of their requirements, he could have planned for better facilities than the tents which were built as temporary facilities. He and Dr Nader both felt that it was interesting to work together. Daaji explained in great depth to Dr Tony Nader, the importance of Pranahuti in the Sahaj Marg paddhatti. He explained how he adored the word transcendental because it meant going beyond at every level, just as in meditation we transcend the mind and enter the realms of the deeper mind, and the heart. It is a never-ending journey. He explained how the preceptors of our Mission are enabled to transmit and clean.

Transcendental Meditation practitioners had been very impressed by Heartfulness inviting the Transcendental Meditation people wondering if it would not clash. Daaji had said that he felt that instead of clashing it would unite us. Together we could trigger change in consciousness at a large scale. Daaji’s idea of unification moved the hearts of all the Transcendental Meditation members.

After some discussion on the details of the stay arrangements for the thousands of Transcendental Meditation members in Kanha, Daaji then introduced his son Sahaj to them who greeted Dr Nader in flawless French much to the delight of all present. Daaji gave Dr. Nader some new Allbirds soft canvas shoes which fit him very well.

The last time they had come, the Korean abhyasis had taken Daaji’s measurements, and this time they had brought for him a Korean royal attire which Daaji donned before having dinner with them all. He looked stunning in it and walked with such ease that you’d think he had lived his life wearing regal robes. The moment he arrived, the Korean abhyasis clapped with much obvious glee giving him a warm welcome amongst them. Seated in the garden near the patio, the Korean abhyasis had a question-and-answer session with Daaji before having dinner with him. It reminds us of the time when Daaji had received African abhyasis in his earlier residence in Madhuvanam apartments and they had invited him to do a few steps of their dance with them. He had!! How simply and innocently he participates, with open-hearted explorations of their customs and dress codes. It simply endears everyone to him. When he travels too, he insists that the local team are given full freedom to cook for him as their heart dictates. This means that he tries a variety of local cuisine made with enthusiastic love and served with the devoted hands of sister abhyasis. For them, it is a lifetime’s memory.

One such person had recounted how Babuji Maharaj had stopped on his travels in Southern India and had a meal in their home. His mother is still alive at 90 years old and she still lives on that one memory of having had the incredible opportunity of serving food she had made in her own kitchen to Babuji Maharaj. This is how Our Masters take care of our hearts, by embellishing them and letting love flower into devotion in myriad ways.

With the Korean abhyasis now seated and beginning to have their Dinner, Daaji began the question and answer session as promised the day before.

Daaji first made a special request that each week they would exchange sittings between each other as preceptors and that they give plenty of sittings to abhyasis in their centers. He told them to take a sitting on the day before or the morning of the day on which they were to conduct group satsangh to prepare themselves adequately.

Q. I have seen many spiritual leaders who have a supernatural power but I was not sure if they were saints. How do we know if a saint is real or fake? Is there a criterion to recognise a saint?

A. If you are asking if I have any superpowers, then I have none. But I can help you in one specific realm; that of connecting you with the source, becoming more and more spiritual, and becoming a more and more balanced and happy person. Giving and taking is a normal course in worldly life. But becoming something is a better gift. Because what is given to you can be taken away. But when you become no one can destroy your becoming. Heartfulness is all about inner change, making us tranquil and more peaceful.

Babuji Maharaj used to say that the sign of a saint is that when you sit beside a person, see if you find calmness, and peace and see if your mind is at rest.

The heart is very sensitive. It gives a very strong signal when we are doing anything wrong. It becomes very disturbed even by the thought of doing wrong things.

Whenever anything unnatural is going to happen the heart becomes restless. When things are happening in their natural way, as they should be, the heart does not give any signal. If the person is wrong you will feel it in your heart. We should not follow somebody because they are supposed to be saints. Check in with your heart. It is a matter of your heart, not anyone else's. You have to test a spiritual guide several times in your life. When you are satisfied then drop everything and accept the guide with all your heart and surrender to him once and for all.

Certain habits if you are unable to change on your own, pray to the saint and request for help to remove it. If he is successful in helping you with it then your trust in him develops naturally.

Don’t test the Master by asking him if he can drop the moon from the sky. That is not the right test. Test what happens in your inner world. In your inner spiritual dimension. In heartfulness, as we remove more and more karma our destiny keeps changing. That is an additional test. I have personally felt that a Master of caliber can help you in every facet of your existence. Try him out. I have personally felt that Babuji has helped me in irreversible situations when things were at a dead end. But somehow he has helped me. When you cry your heart out to such a noble and generous saint as Babuji he is sure to help you. All you need is to hug that old man!

Q. One of my family members committed suicide. The rest of the family feels guilty for not having been able to prevent it from happening. I want to know why this happened. Is it my karma? What to do in this situation?

A. In 1979 when I was in university, a friend came to see me and he left a note as I was not there in my room which was locked. He told me in that note that he said he had come to see me but unfortunately, he had to go back to his hometown and we did not meet. After he reached his native town he committed suicide. So I kept wondering why he had come to meet me. Perhaps he wanted to speak about his problem. I felt so bad that I could not meditate for three months. It gave me a big shock and shook me up from inside.

This situation continued until fortunately, Babuji Maharaj came to our town. I went to meet him even if I had kind of stopped meditating. It did not feel right to go and be in his holy presence due to this breach of practice but then I thought that if Babuji was here it was important that I meet him so I went to see him.

Somehow in his presence, this heaviness just dissolved. Not too long ago one of my relatives also committed suicide. She jumped into a river from a bridge. Is it written in our destiny to commit suicide? No. But suicide is a personal choice and it happens when one loses hope in life.

Under such situations, nothing can be done. When a person has already decided to commit suicide it is too difficult to change their mindset. There are many reasons why people kill themselves. Some for financial reasons, and most people commit suicide because of emotional heartbreak from their loved ones.

We can solve problems of a financial nature. You can help your friend with money. But when there is a heartbreak, for example, when your husband or wife is cheating on you. You feel that you gave your all and it was not enough. In such situations at times, some people decide to end their life. It is difficult to help them change this.

Suicide is not in the karma of the person who is committing suicide. So how can it be in the karma of the person who has to bear the pain of witnessing that and undergoing the pain of their tragic loss?

Later after the session, Daaji gave gifts to all of them. In that generous and warm presence of Daaji, the Korean abhyasi group was overwhelmed by his love. He told them that he would be completing the spiritual process of endowing them with permission to work as trainers of the Heartfulness method the next day. After that, he took a Group photo with them and went to get ready for the interview with Steve Stein on Spiritual Anatomy.

As Daaji led the conversation once again on Spiritual anatomy. It was thrilling to hear him describe with precision and simplicity this unexplored ground-breaking new explanation of the inner journey of transcending levels of consciousness. Daaji’s work is nothing short of phenomenal in presenting the Sahaj Marg tradition to the world. With comments from viewers flowing in, Steve asked some very sharp questions to Daaji in the book.
